New Season! New BOARD!

August was quiet for GTG in the public eye but lots was going on behind the scenes as we finalized plans for our 2025-2026 season and prepared for our Annual General Meeting.

The AGM was held Thursday, August 28th and offered an opportunity for our generous patrons to mingle and for us to say an extra special โ€œThank youโ€ with some refreshments. Thank you to our VP Operations, Erin Creed, for organizing the social. Thank you as well to our returning members along with some faces we havenโ€™t seen in a while. We had a fabulous turnout, and we were excited to share all the Guildโ€™s accomplishments over the past season and announce the rest of the 2025-2026 line up!

We kick the season off with โ€œThe Great Gatsby โ€“ A Live Radio Playโ€ adapted by Joe Landry with musical score by Kevin Connors. Directed by Rob Carley, it runs October 22nd to 26th at Trinity United Church.ย  This is a co-production with Trinity Arts and GTGโ€™s celebration of the City of North Bayโ€™s centennial! The first read-through was AMAZING so get your tickets now by going to: https://www.zeffy.com/en-CA/ticketing/gateway-theatre-guild-and-trinity-arts-present-the-great-gatsbya-live-radio-play.

Our next show is โ€œRopeโ€ by Patrick Hamilton directed by Josh Bainbridge. In this harrowing suspense thriller, a sociopathic university student persuades his weak-minded friend to assist him in the murder of a perfectly harmless fellow undergraduate. A suspenseful and thought-provoking evening unfolds as the dinner guests arrive. The show will run February 18th to 22nd, 2026 at ร‰cole secondaire publique Odyssรฉe.

Our final show of the season is Trying by Joanna McClelland Glass featuring Rick Blair and directed by Johanna McPherson. Trying is an autobiographical story based on the authorโ€™s experience during 1967-1968 when she worked for Francis Biddle at his home in Washington, D.C. Judge Biddle had been Attorney General of the United States under Franklin Roosevelt. After the war, President Truman named him Chief Judge of the American Military Tribunal at Nuremberg. The play is about a young Canadian girl and an old Philadelphia aristocrat โ€œtryingโ€ to understand each other in what Biddle knows is the final year of his life. The play runs June 3rd to 7th, 2026 at ร‰cole secondaire publique Odyssรฉe.

Please note that ticket prices this season are $25 for adults and $20 for students and seniors. We will continue to have a Pay-What-You-Can performance for each production. For Great Gatsby, it will be opening night (Wednesday, October 22nd).

YOur NEW GTG BOARD!

Johanna McPherson stepped down as President of GTG at the AGM and we welcome Stephanie Kast into that role. She will be familiar to many of you as she directed โ€œTwelve Angry Jurorsโ€ in the 2023-2024 season as well as โ€œEclipsedโ€ for our gala fundraiser. She has also graced the stage at the Fringe and with various Proscenium Club productions (including their upcoming show โ€œHappy Jackโ€™s Motelโ€ happening at the Capitol Centre October 10th and 11th โ€“ get your tickets NOW https://capitolcentre.org/all-events/theatre-events/happy-jack-s-motel). We welcome Stephanie to board and are thankful for her willingness to take on this role.

Also joining the board is Mariah Boehk as VP Artistic. You will recognize Mariah as Mary from Salt Water Moon from the 2022-2023 season. Mariah has also stage managed Guild shows and is a graduate of Canadoreโ€™s Acting for Stage and Screen.  We are excited to have Mariah join the board!

happy jack’s motel

The Proscenium Club proudly presents Happy Jack’s Motel October 10th and 11th at the Capitol Centre! Happy Jack’s Motel is run by jaded, failed screenwriter Jack. Under threat of a looming storm, the motel finds itself unusually full for the night. Guests find themselves flung together through a fateful series of chance encounters. Against a backdrop of robbery, secrets, sex and Jazzercise, Happy Jack’s Motel becomes a dingy battleground offering eight people one last shot at escaping their dark fates. Dangerously funny, with a healthy dose of hijinks and just a touch of gore, Happy Jack’s Motel brings you back to the Decade of Greed in a way that you’ve never experienced before.
